L’art est une opération d’alchimie : il s’agit toujours d’altérer, de modifier, de métamorphoser et de transfigurer les matériaux pour les faire accéder au monde animé grâce à l’expérimentation et à la transmission. Mais c’est aussi une question de relations car l’alchimie suppose la compatibilité et la conjonction des personnes et des choses du monde pour donner sens à l’existence et transcender notre finitude. Du reste, tout mon travail est tissé d’histoires de relations et même si je ne prétends pas au grand œuvre — le secret de l’immortalité que recherchent les grands maîtres à travers la réalisation de leur magnum opus —, j’ai saisi l’occasion de cette exposition sur le thème de l’œuvre au noir pour associer à ma vidéo intitulée Expérimentation une petite aquarelle de mon arrière-grand-père, l’artiste belge Félix Noël, représentant déjà un alchimiste — comme un hommage d’un petit maître à un autre au fil d’une généalogie d’alchimistes dont le magnum opus a plus de chance de se retrouver aux puces qu’au muséum. 

Art is a process of alchemy : it is always about altering, modifying, transforming and transfiguring material to make access to the world of the living through experimentation and transmission. But it is also a matter of relationships because alchemy involves compatibility and the conjunction of people and things to give meaning to life and transcend our finitude. Besides, my whole work is woven with stories of relationships and even though I do not pretend to great work - the secret of immortality sought by masters through the realization of their magnum opus - I seize the occasion of this exhibition on the theme of blackness (the first step in the pathway of the philosopher's stone) to associate my video titled ‘Experiment’ with a small watercolor of my great-grandfather, the Belgian artist Félix Noël, which already represented an alchemist - as a tribute from a minor master to another over a genealogy of alchemists in the hope that joining their forces might bring up a magnum opus more likely to be found in the museum than at the flea market.
